What is the "realism" concept? How do things work here?

  • Realism is all about playing your dinosaur as if it were truly alive in its world.
  • Instead of just surviving the game mechanics, you roleplay behaviors, instincts, and social rules based on how that dinosaur might act in real life.
  • Every species has a profile with guidelines (diet, behavior, hierarchy, social life, predator response, etc.) that shape how you play them.
    • You don’t need to learn every profile at once! To start playing, just know the Game Rules and the Profile of your chosen dinosaur.
    • Profiles are written so you’ll understand how to interact with other dinosaurs, even if you haven’t read their profile yet.
  • You don’t just run around randomly - you eat when hungry, drink when thirsty, rest when tired, defend your herd, care for your young, and react to threats in a believable way.
  • Social structures matter: herds, packs, territories, and rivalries all play a role, and fighting has consequences - and may even end in the permanent death of your dinosaur.
  • It’s less about “winning” and more about creating immersive, living stories together with other players.

How do I roleplay (RP) a dinosaur?

  • Instead of just focusing on gameplay, you imagine how it would behave, survive, and interact with others.
  • Stay in character – act and react as your dinosaur would according to profile (not as a player behind a screen).
    • This means also that you should act on what your dinosaur knows, and not on what you as a player know.
    • For example: You know that a carnivore you come across does not hunt at this time of day. Your herbivore dinosaur, if it hasn't had any previous experience with said carnivore, would still be cautious and might run.
  • Use behavior, not words. This is up to preference - but some players may prefer to not text and instead do all communication non-verbally.
    • Communicate with calls, movement, and actions.
    • Example: Call-outs for danger should be done with the ❗- emote and not be written in chat.
  • Create your own story and personality.
    • Give your dinosaur some quirky character traits! Maybe your dino is quickly jealous of others? Or loves a specific place or has a favourite food?
    • Think about its backstory - where and how did it grow up? What experiences shaped it and how do they affect your dinos behaviour?
  • React to other players.
    • They’ve put just as much effort into their characters as you have into yours. Acknowledge their roleplay and react to it — you’ll find they’ll do the same for you.
  • Share the spotlight!
    • Everyone enjoys a moment of attention, so sometimes it means stepping back and letting others shine.

Tips and examples on Realism Gameplay

  • Try to compare to real life animals.
    • Carnivores and Herbivores wouldn't group together.
    • Animals don't kill for sport. They would only hunt when they are hungry.
    • Animals don't scream constantly - they are mostly quiet when not communicating with others (besides using body language mostly) or trying to attract attention.
    • Animals don't t-bag or bunny hop.
    • Carnivores don't victory-call after a kill.
  • Ask yourself how - based on your profile - your dinosaur would realistically react in certain situations.
    • Would it investigate a situation, watch from a distance or run in panic?
    • In what way would it realistically defend itself, considering it's kind and size? Would it hide, stand its ground, run or try to back up to better defendable grounds?
